The Foundation was founded in 2015.  A large aim of the Foundation and it’s volunteers has always been to raise funds to support NMIS.  The Foundation has met this goal by contributing to the success of the school through many worthwhile efforts.  In the 2021-2022 school year alone, NMISF has:

  • Helped redecorate the teacher lounge, provided teacher appreciation gifts and activities, and provided over $1,200 for the Sunshine Committee, which celebrates and recognizes important milestones for teachers and staff

  • Helped the Student Council raise $1,500

  • Purchased playground toys

  • Painted the playground with games, hopscotch, a soccer field, etc.

  • Created community building events like Trunk-or-Treat and Wall of Love

  • Funded student activities such as the science fair, world poetry day, talent show, etc., including prizes

  • Paid staff stipends for special activities

  • Provided financial support for the After School Athletics Program

  • Donated new uniforms for low-income families

  • Funded lunches for low-income students

  • Donated art supplies when stock began to run low

  • And our largest contribution to date, a commitment of $107,000 to the playground structure - these funds have taken years to secure!

Statement from the NMISF Board regarding the Foundation’s Tax Exempt Status

February 28, 2022

Recently, a few large donor programs, such as those through large employers, have contacted the NM International School Foundation (“NMISF”) with regards to our 501(c)(3) tax exempt status because of certain Internal Revenue Service (“IRS”) record discrepancies.  However, NMISF is not on the revocation list maintained by the Internal Revenue Service nor has the Board received any communication that NMISF’s 501(c)(3) status has been suspended or revoked.  Our latest tax filings were made via paper and not electronically, and are not reflected in IRS records.  It seems that the exorbitant delays with processing returns may be the cause of their absence in official IRS records.

This is an administrative matter that the volunteers serving on the NMISF Board have taken quick action to resolve, including addressing the discrepancies and confirming that our status as a 501(c)(3) remains intact. The Board takes its responsibilities seriously and has engaged the services of a Certified Public Accountant (“CPA”) to help expedite this matter.

The Board is diligent about maintaining its good standing with the State of New Mexico and the IRS.  You can look up records here:

NMISF is still accepting donations and sponsorships.  However, as always, NMISF does not and cannot provide tax advice, but rather encourages contributors to talk with a CPA  or other tax professional about their contributions to NMISF and the impact it may have on their tax liability.

The NMISF Board has no reason to believe that our status has changed and we are appreciative of the goodwill in our community that has always stepped up to help fund the many endeavors at New Mexico International School.  To learn more about our activities and contributions to NMIS, please visit www.nmisf.org/about-nmisf.

If you have questions or concerns, please email us at treasurer@nmisf.org.
